The Copier Channel Industry, Shaping the Modern Workplace

The Copier Channel Industry and the Modern Workplace
Our team here at Copier Careers® have been Recruiters for the Copier Channel® for over 30 years. In that time, we’ve seen the industry grow and evolve to better serve the needs of the modern workplace.
Evolving Industry
30 years ago, the Copier Channel Industry was focused on hardware sales and paper-based processes. But as black-and-white and analog machines gave way to color, digital, and multifunctional devices; the industry modernized offices across the nation. Innovations in Managed Print Services (MPS) allowed offices to save money while increasing productivity, document security and environmental sustainability. This became especially important following the 2008 economic crisis, as businesses were running with fewer staff and narrower margins. Given the success of MPS, it was a natural leap to expand into Managed Network Services (MNS), making independent dealerships one-stop-shops for business equipment and IT needs. Through these technological and process innovations, the Copier Channel came out of the recession with booming opportunities in the modern workplace. Today, the industry has evolved to provide sophisticated information management services delivered across vast networks of varied devices.
Shifting Roles
As the Copier Channel Industry has evolved to take advantage of 21st century business opportunities, the industry’s professionals have had to adjust their mindsets and evolve their skills. In service departments, the role of service technicians has increasingly moved from break/fix to hybrid MPS/MNS professionals. On the other hand, the role of the service manager is less about offering repair expertise for copier technicians and more about managing sophisticated workflow solutions. Today, service and operations managers are collaborating more closely with the people responsible for sales, finance, and business strategy.
In sales departments, the role of sales representatives have moved beyond pushing boxes to providing an array of sophisticated solutions for the modern business environment. This evolution of sales teams into true solutions providers means the role of sales managers as mentors and strategists has grown increasingly vital. The time and effort required to recruit, mentor and motivate these increasingly specialized roles is among the greatest challenges for independent dealers in the Copier Channel.
